Lord of the Fries
I went to Melbourne for a quick trip, and I just had to try Lord of the Fries! As you know, I kinda have an obsession with fries. You can choose different sauces for your fries, and that's where the variety comes in. We had French Canadian (Cheese and gravy - pictured below), Indian (Indian spices (?) and mango chutney pictured above) and Mexican (Salsa and Sour Cream).
To be honest, as great as the fries sound, it wasn't all that crash hot. The fries were wayyyy overcooked and stale, and the Indian sauce was uninspiring. The French Canadian was ok, but I'm pretty sure that it's no where close to poutine and just tastes a lot like chips and gravy.
We requested the salsa to be served on the side, and they completely forgot the sour cream! We actually had another order with aoli sauce, but they completely forgot that too. It's so disappointing, and it's not like they were really quick about it. We could finish just about a whole soft-serve before the food even came out. The salsa was also very watery and doesn't have the chunk that you'd associate with really good salsa.
It was a lot better when I went previously, but I think that it was because we went to the LOTF in the city. Just yeah.
Disappointing.

awww shameful! Sorry about your experience. We need decent poutine in Australia
I was excited for you when i opened the page - but then disappointment! Perhaps they were having a bad day!! Maybe next visit!
Yeah I've been to lord of the fries too and vie got to day that I agree with you, I didn't think much of the fries either, i prefer KFC chips over them
Sounds like they know how to ruin frieds - how sad! I'm DYING to try the Charlie & Co fries...they sound really good.
My Restaurants Melbourne: Yes! KFC chips are wayyy better cooked, although my personal fav is Maccas cause I much prefer shoestring rather than chunky fries.
MelbaToast: Yes 'tis sad indeed. I had such high hopes for a fries binge too! I'd like to try Charlie and Co. too, but I've heard some things about cold fries and overpriced burgers. Fingers crossed that it's ok!
Wow!! And they all looked so good, how do you ruin fried food???
Hi I have just nominated you for a game of blogger tag, have a look at my site, and if you are so inclined, please play along :)
Gourmet Getaway: I know hey, AND I like soggy fries. Truly a disaster. Thank you for tagging me! I'll play along. =)
I hope you can visit Toronto one day to try the modern varieties of Canadian poutine. There's a place here called Smoke's Poutinerie where you can top your fries with items like caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms, smoked bacon, beef chili, guacamole, the list goes on...
Seeing as Toronto is far away and that you love to cook, I can imagine you can make a pretty mean poutine at home yourself. :)
paperplateandplane: Oooh that sounds so good. Nah, I can't make poutine at home cause I haven't tried what poutine's supposed to be like! Would love to though. It sounds like a carb-lover's dream.
